Scholarship: 1 / My Results: 1

Joe and Sara Bishop became supporters of the Steamboat Springs Winters Sports Club when their sons Hunter and Philip skied with the SSWSC. The Bishops have been passionate about the SSWSC and our athletes. Over the past 20 years, they have generously contributed to numerous fundraising events and various SSWSC projects.

Joe kept a roll of $2 bills in his pocket. When he would see children, whether it was in the supermarket or the post office, he would give them a $2 bill.  It was his “signature” way of a spreading a little kindness to kids.  When the Bishops were honored as the 2018 Winter Carnival Grand Marshals, they participated in the Opening Ceremony where Joe approached the princesses and handed each of them a $2 bill.  It was difficult to tell who enjoyed the moment more.  After Joe’s passing in January 2019, Sara established this scholarship fund in his name and continued the tradition of handing out $2 bills.

Sadly, Sara passed away this summer and the SSWSC family misses her greatly.  She was a wonderful supporter of the club and generously gave to the endowment and scholarship funds. To honor his parents, Joe and Sara’s son Phillip is supporting the Joe and Sara Bishop Winter Carnival Grand Marshal Memorial Scholarship.  Two- $2,000 scholarships will be awarded annually to SSWSC student-athletes between the ages of 12-18 years old.  Winners will be announced by February 1 each year and the scholarship awards will be presented at the Winter Carnival Royalty Dinner each year.
